Do Nothing: jön a Friend World, megérkezett a melankolikus Stars

A Do Nothing bejelentette második albumát Friend World címmel, és kihozta róla a melankolikus Stars-t. A lemez November 6 -án jelenik meg a Submarine Cat Records -nál. A zenekar 2023-as bemutatkozó albuma a Snake Sideways volt, most pedig új irányokkal térnek vissza. A Stars dobgépes alapokra és savas, „squelchy” szintikre épülő, visszafogottan melankolikus dal, amelyben Chris Bailey azt énekli: „We’re stars, the world is a worm on a strong / Hanging around, let’s not amount to anything”. Bailey szerint „I guess the simplest interpretation of this one would be that it’s about ambition, and people who are famous, and all the ways in which it doesn’t make them happy people. More than that though, I’d say it’s about finding someone you connect with enough that you quit caring about the other things that used to drive you.” A videót a Clump Collective rendezte. „Getting away from the guitar was useful,” – tette hozzá Bailey. „We didn’t want it to sound particularly rocky or aggressive. We’re always interested in finding energy and momentum without relying on the obvious ways of creating them.” A Friend World producere és mixmérnöke a Folly Groupból ismert Louis Milburn , a felvételek a nottinghami JT Soar stúdióban készültek. Inspirációként az írónő Elizabeth Smart és a baloldali humora miatt kultikus Andy Kaufman is hatott rájuk, aki gyakran a This Friendly World eléneklésével zárta a fellépéseit. „For me it’s an album about a lot of bleak things, but it doesn’t feel bleak… That’s the whole point of the title really. There’s two sides to everything.
